Laura, 64 years old, is saying, “My questions are based on the book, ‘The Great Taking.’ Uh, I believe Dan had referenced this book in the past. Should we be contacting our institutions to have our stock certificates directly transferred to us? My brokerage is Fidelity. And in that account, uh, I own some individual stocks as well as Timothy funds ETFs. Do you consider Timothy a safer option as far as protecting our assets from being confiscated?” So really two questions from Laura there.
Shana: Yeah. So I’m not familiar at all with the book. I have not read it so I can’t really speak to anything that’s in it. Um, as far as having stock certificates directly transferred to you, the issue that you’re going to have with that, if you hold your physical stock certificates, is what happens if you want to sell them? Now you’ve got to go back to a brokerage. You’ve got to open an account. You’ve got to send them your stock certificates. Um, you know, I just think that the inconvenience outweighs the risk. Could our assets be confiscated from us in the future? Sure. They could. But you know, I think the Bible says a lot of things can potentially happen to us, but you know, what the response to that? What Jesus says over and over again, and other voices in the Bible say, is, ‘Do not be afraid. Be of good courage. Know that the Lord is taking care of you.’ So you know what? If they take your stocks from you, if they take your money from you, they cannot take the one thing that provides true security, and that is faith in Jesus Christ.
That’s well said, Shana. I mean, I think that’s such a good underlying reminder for us as we deal in the physical material world that we live in and we’re dealing with our money, understanding that, you know what, maybe the day will come when they take it all away and that would be really bad, but that would not be the worst thing that could happen to us. And what a good reminder that we need to have our hope secured in what really matters, which is eternal life.
Absolutely. And you know, I’m not a proponent of them taking everything from us. You know, I think it would be a very hard situation for us all to get used to, but I can tell you this: if we ain’t got money to worry about, we can focus on the things that really matter, you know.
It’s well said. That’s good.
