PHILADELPHIA—As some attempt to portray a weakening economy, all economic indicators point toward a healthy and growing economy, nationally syndicated host and biblical investing authority Dan Celia said today.
“We have a lot of great economic news coming out,” Celia said. “Durable good numbers—certainly one of the most important numbers of the week—is up 2.7%. That’s coming off of a negative 1.1%, so we’re looking at a 3.8% swing in durable goods for the month of March. One of my favorite numbers is CapEx orders. Capital expenditures are up 1.3% for March. And that is good news, showing that business sentiment is still very, very good for this economy, even though it seems everybody is getting duped into believing the economy is weakening. Is growth slowing? It is, but is the economy weakening? It sure doesn’t appear so, and we’ll get more clarity on that as we head into a new week with a lot of economic data. Oil could be an issue for the economy moving forward.
“Productivity numbers also are very important,” Celia added, “maybe one of the most important numbers coming out as we look forward to the week. We can’t have growth without productivity, and it will be difficult to have productivity without workers. And that is a problem. The unemployment rate is dangerously low. Something’s got to give, and I hate to belabor this, but I go back to a Townhall article I wrote over a year ago stating that the No. 1 priority of the administration has to be legal immigration and fixing that system as quickly as possible so America can welcome good, legal, qualified workers who want to assimilate into the American culture. Hopefully, that will be resolved sooner rather than later. It’s been late getting started, but better late than never.”
Celia discusses these and other global and economic headlines on his daily, three-hour “Financial Issues” program, heard on about 650 radio stations nationwide, as well as several television networks.
