Dan Celia: July in Review

PHILADELPHIA—Nationally syndicated host and biblical investing authority Dan Celia finalizes the monthly numbers from July and looks ahead to August.

“We still have a lot to look out for as we head into a new week of factory orders,” Celia states. “They were up about 1.7% for the month of May, but this is a June number. I’m not going to place a lot of emphasis on it. The ADP Jobs Report is going to either make us very nervous going into Friday or excited to see what might happen. Also on Wednesday, we get ISM – Service Sector Numbers, and this is going to be the most telling number of the week, as far as an indicator to give us some outlook for what we might expect. And that is a July number, of course. Friday is the big number. The biggest number for most will be the non-farm payroll numbers coming out on Friday. It is really going to play a huge role in the Federal Reserve.”

Celia continues, “If we get the 788,000 number or lower, the Federal Reserve is going to have some cover for not raising rates or not cutting any of the bond buying. Now, the inflation number is going to be an important part of the week and we’ll see what that does. But if the number is significantly higher than 850,000, then the Federal Reserve has to be a little bit concerned. The economy might be a little bit overheated, more so than he thought, and he’s going to lose that cover and he’s going to have to do something. It is not likely that he will raise rates, but he may have to be talking very seriously about the bond purchasing. We’ll see how it all goes, but it’s going to be a very interesting week with earnings reports. Some of this economic data is going to lend itself to either more confidence in the economy or less confidence. And in the end, that is what’s going to drive the money and the markets.”

Celia discusses these and other global and economic headlines on his daily, three-hour Financial Issues program, heard on more than 660 radio stations and several television networks nationwide, including FISM.TV, viewed on several post-cable television platforms and online.
