Dan Celia: Hot Markets and Rising Interest are a Deadly Combination

PHILADELPHIA—Nationally syndicated host and biblical investing authority Dan Celia discusses the chances of inflation.

“We have a significant amount of economic data coming out this week. Before I get to that, though, let me just tell you that Jerome Powell came out and said that it is highly unlikely that the Federal Reserve is going to raise any kind of rates this year. The point here is “highly unlikely.” It was pretty much a definite that there was no chance of him raising rates in 2021. Now it’s highly unlikely. As I suspected the Federal Reserve needs rethink some things. As we continue to see interest rates going up organically and watch inflation creep in at a quicker pace than anybody had anticipated, we also have a market that is incredibly heated. A hot market and rising interest rates are a deadly combination for inflation. I suspect that inflation is going to continue to creep in and create some concerns.

“On Tuesday we get some fairly important economic data. We are getting the consumer price index. We have NFIB small business index coming out. We’ll see how it looks when we get that out on Tuesday. Right now it sits at 95.8. The National Association of Home Builders Index is coming out for the month of April. The March number was not very good, so we’ll see if it has improved. We also get building permits, housing starts and consumer sentiment index, which is a much better gauge of where consumers are. That’s coming out Friday. The March number was not good. We’ll see if the April number has improved.”
